[edit] Early life and career

Farage was educated at Dulwich College before joining a commodity brokerage firm in London. He ran his own brokerage business from the early 1990s until 2002.

Active in the Conservative Party from his school days until the resignation of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1990, he left the party in 1992 when John Major's government signed the Treaty on European Union at Maastricht. He became a founding member of UKIP in 1993 and has contested UK parliamentary elections for UKIP five times. He was elected to the European Parliament in 1999 and re-elected in 2004 and 2009. Farage is currently leader of the thirteen-member UKIP contingent in the European Parliament, and co-leader of the multinational eurosceptic group, Europe of Freedom and Democracy. He also contested the Bromley & Chislehurst constituency during the May 2006 by-election, organised after the Member of Parliament representing it, the eurosceptic Conservative Eric Forth, died. He scored third, winning 8% of the vote, thus beating the Labour Party candidate. This was the second-best by-election result recorded by UKIP out of 25 results.

Farage married first, in 1988, Grainne Hayes, with whom he had two children, Samuel (born 1989) and Thomas (born 1991). In 1999 he married the German Kirsten Mehr, with whom he has a further two children, Victoria (born 2000) and Isabelle (born 2005).[2] Kirsten Farage has at various times been an employee of her husband paid from his allowances around £30,000per annum.
[edit] Leader of UKIP

On 12 September 2006, in a particularly dishonest and divisive leadership election Nigel Farage was elected leader of UKIP with 45% of the vote, 20% ahead of his nearest rival Richard Suchorzewski.[3] He pledged to bring discipline to the party and to maximise UKIP's representation in local, parliamentary and other elections.[citation needed] In a PM programme interview on BBC Radio 4 that day he pledged to end the public perception of UKIP as a single-issue party and to work with allied politicians in the Better Off Out campaign, committing himself not to stand against the MPs who have signed up to that campaign (fifteen in all at this moment! but only 4 UKIP MEPs are listed!).

At his maiden speech, as leader, to the UKIP conference on 8 October 2006, he told delegates that the party was "at the centre-ground of British public opinion" and the "real voice of opposition". Farage said: "We've got three social democratic parties in Britain — Labour, Lib Dem and Conservative are virtually indistinguishable from each other on nearly all the main issues" and "you can't put a cigarette paper between them and that is why there are nine million people who don't vote now in general elections that did back in 1992."[4]

At 10pm on 19 October 2006, Farage took part in a three-hour live interview and phone-in with James Whale on national radio station talkSPORT. Four days later, Whale announced on his show his intention to stand as UKIP's candidate in the 2008 London Mayoral Election. Farage said that Whale "not only has guts, but an understanding of what real people think". However Whale later decided not to stand and UKIP was represented by Gerard Batten.[5]

In September 2009 he announced that he would stand against John Bercow, the newly elected Speaker of the House of Commons, in his Buckingham constituency in the Next United Kingdom general election, despite a convention, broken on previous occasions, as when Labour stood against Sir Bernard Weatherall, that the speaker is outside of party politics, and not challenged for re-election.[6]

In October 2009, he was ranked 41st (out of 100) in the Daily Telegraph Top 100 most influential right-wingers poll, citing his media savvy and his success with UKIP in the European Elections. [7]

==Expenses disclosure==

In May 2009, [[The Guardian]] reported that Farage had said in a speech to the Foreign Press Association that over ten years as a member of the European Parliament he received and spent nearly £2 million of taxpayers' money in expenses and allowances, on top of his £64,000 a year salary.{{cite web|url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009/may/24/mps-expenses-ukip-nigel-farage |title=Ukip leader boasts of his £2m in expenses | Politics | The Observer |publisher=Guardian |date= |accessdate=2009-06-08}}

The former Europe Minister, [[Denis MacShane]], said that this showed that Farage was "happy to line his pockets with gold". Farage called this a "misrepresentation"{{cite web|url=http://www.ukip.org/content/latest-news/1053-mcshane-misses-the-point-on-expenses |title=McShane misses the point on expenses - UK Independence Party |publisher=Ukip.org |date=2009-05-19 |accessdate=2009-06-08}}, pointing out that the money was for expenses, not salary, but he welcomed the focus on the issue of MEP expenses, claiming that "[o]ver a five year term each and every one of Britain's 78 MEPs gets about £1 million. It is used to employ administrative staff, run their offices and to travel back and forth between their home, Brussels and Strasbourg."{{cite web|url=http://www.ukip.org/content/latest-news/1068-mep-expense-spotlight-turns-focus-to-eu |title=MEP expense spotlight turns focus to EU - UK Independence Party |publisher=Ukip.org |date=2009-05-25 |accessdate=2009-06-08}}

  1. listened to you on the Talk Radio today with Maurice Boland.you have had alote of people phonend in after you laft saying how true all what you have stated the People are fed up with all three parties.on this i have another matter if you could look into.i have had many many e-mails on the same subject and even some public houses in London Yorkshire have the newspaper cutting on there walls stating the big coverup.this is about the daily mail Newspaper cutting for the 29 of may 2009.which read that David Cameron took the most money out of the Expenses fraud then any body else in Parlement.for his Morgage on his Private Home in Oxfordshire.£22.000 per year since 2002.(AND AT THE TIME 2009 REFUSED TO PAY ANY OF IT BACK)i have been intouch with the Daily Mail and most of the National Newspapers .+the BBC Newswatch program.about this .had one message back stating he paid it all back in August 2009 because of the police looking into it.now what we all want to know is why wasent his name ever mentioned why wasent he named and shamed over this like the rest.They stated that a labour mp took the most £10.000 if you remember.but his must have been well over £100.000 can you look into it.the Daily Mail 29 of may 2009.also how did he get away with the Muslim Vote.remember the Archbishop of Canterbury on the BBC and ITV News stating that he was there when David Cameron promised the Muslem leader that he would if he got in AT THE NEXT ELECTION.Hewould give the Muslems more control. no more christian prayers in the Schools,more Muslem synagogs IF THEY GAVE HIM THERE VOTE.now this is not from me but from the daily mail.Archbishop of Canterbury,now if most intellegent british voters know this.the labour party must also know this.so why dont they use it on the conservative party.or is there another deal .hoping the people will vote tory .withn the labour party.it is very deep.the papers wont ask the questions.the bbc and itv wont ask the question .but they know what he has done,lets have the truth for once.i have many many friends who are asking this same question.please can you look into it for us all.the DailY Mail must have been telling the truth at the time.or they could been Sued.Archbishop of Canterbury must have been telling the truth.also there are many more stories.he should not even be allowed to be a mp.As you stated today the voters cannot trust any of them anymore and this is one reason why they cant.please look it up.and reply to me.perhapes you could mention it to the Press.AND START A BIG NEWPAPER STORY.

  2. We think what i am about to write should be read out in the Hoouses of Parliment for all to know.which we all know but wont do anything about.a group of us British Voters have been putting some urgent issues together which Britain is well behind doing for there People,which must be voted on.first on the TV Adverts(you must have seen it) they are asking for money for Abused Children in the UK..they say there are 5 000 Children are Abused each year which they must find money for now look at all the money we send Abroad to look after other Children in other Countries Millions of Pounds a year.when our own children are suffering.lets stop all money going abroad for anything untill British People are out of trouble.Next Question the British old age Pensioner.THIS IS ALL TRUE,If a old age pensioner with just his old age pension.with all the worries of Heating.buying Food,Clothing, Lighting, TV Licence.Council Tax.Transport to go and buy his food.ect.if he thought it out he could do this.if he was to break the law say thieving make sure he was caught.so he would go to Prison.he would not need a old age Peoples Home.in Prison he would get Central Heating.Hot Food each day.Pint of Beer each day.Free Cigarettes.Clothing.Lighting.Books to read.TV and Radio to Watch and listen to.would not have to worry about Council Tax.Would be paid if he works.(money goes in the bank for when he gets out)a Prison union.to help him.no such help outside.Clean Bed,with a Doctor who comes to see you.no queing up in a Doctors Waiting room.only trouble would be the other inmates.now if some of the conservatives.(last time they were in)who went into prison and survived.even wrote books in there.REMEMBER)..i think they would be alright.better then a old people home.Now why should they have to go to prison to get a good life.why cant they get bit all like the prisoners in retirement.in spain today they just gave out that a spanish man has been given 90 years in prison for raping two women.what would his sentence been in britain i wonder.

  3. there are so many things i really cant understand.look at the roads in britain big holes.dustbins never empted dirty streets.shops closing down now in spain the european union looks after them they are doing all there roads up.new motorways.biulding new shops and houses all out of european money.they say britain pays more into it then any body else so why dont we get more money back for our new roads .new houses .new shops.they say we pay in more then 30 million a day (yes a day ) into the european parliment.now do we get the 30 million value back from them.if not cut the money down.or get out.also all these people being murdered on our street .by gangs.if the police cant stop them call in the army.but as we all think this all comes from no discipline stoping teachers from canning stoping parents from disciplening there children.stopping call up.they could be right.

  4. maurice boland on talk radio in spain is having david cameron on his show,now as i believe he is going to ask him when did he pay back the large amount of money from his expenses.knowbody else seem to have the nerve to ask him.hope he ask him as well about the muslem deal he made.something might be happening.thinking about all this ? .made me wonder because if the newspapers know this.and the bbc news know this already why arnt they saying anything.are the newspapers holding him so he has to do as they say.its a crooked life out there just look at the mps.could be more in it then we think

  5. To start with do you know of any where .we could set up a debate society .for the people of Britain.because i believe there are much more Brighter People out there in our Towns and Cities.more Brighter then the MPS we now have in Goverment.(OR ABOUT TO GO INTO GOVERMENT)you see i think that the MPS are there as they say (FOR THE PEOPLE.OF THE PEOPLE.BY THE PEOPLE).But what do we get.they are Voted into Parliment.then they make all the Plans what they want to do.never asking the People who got them in never remembering the saying (for the people, of the people, by the people.)what we need is a debating society set up .we have the Goverment which was Voted in.we have a Shadow Goverment to keep the others on there Toes.and we have the third party(THE LIBERALS) which we have to pay for.I know they have work to do for there own consistuty.but they could put forward the ideas from the debating society.which would bring the People nearer to the Goverment.I do believe in our own towns and cities.there are some very Bright People who could help this Country of ours.who keep all the News and Debates on there computers.so they are more up to date then most MPS in Parliment.the Goverment do there best but most of the time they cant see the Woods for the Trees.lets set up a Goverment we all can respond to.who will listen to new ideas.in the Houses of Parliment.
    the liberal party could take and reply to emails sent in.and tell the people when these will be brought up in Parliment.i dont consider myself very bright,but i to have some ideas,
    ONE-When they found the Oil Deposit in the North Sea.which produced Oil and Gas which we could use.for our Country.the BBC News at the time had a Program where the Enginerers said there were more Depositits of Oil on many other sites all around our costs.and also inland which they never tested.which would make Millions of Pounds for Great Britain.
    TWO-Just last week the BBC News again said the Engineers have just found that where the old coal mines were.there is lots of Gas Depostits which we could use enough to Fuel Britain.makeing us very lots more Millions of Pounds for our Country.why are we waiting.
    THREE-Why is it that the Murderer.the Rapeist.the Thief, who are in our prison have more given to them TO KEEP THEM HAPPY then our Old Age Pensioners ever get.they get free heating .hot water.never have to worry about the cost.hot food every day.clothing washed and cleaned.lighting.free tv and radio.dont have to worry about tv licence.no council tax.dont have to worry about transport.free Pint of Beer a day.free Cigarettes.free Books .and Newspapers.a prison union to help them with any problems.Old Age Pensioner cant get this.and if the work they get paid for it goes into a bank for when they get out.all got for them from the Human Rights Society.why dont the Human Rights Society help the Old Age Pensioner.(or Perhapes the Old Age Pensioner is not Human,) who has never broken the law never killed any body.but has to worry all the rest of his life.about wheather he should keep warm or eat.he cant afford newspaper s or books. why cant he be treated as good as a Prisoner.at Least.what a daft Country we do live in.WHEN THE MPS CANT SEE IT,the MPS do need our help.lets see a honest Goverment set up .so they listen to there voters before they do anything.keeping the law right remember( for the people, of the people, by the people,)it is not (for the mps, from the mps, by the mps.)this is not what it is all about.now if you know of any way we can set this up.a debate society through the houses of Parliment.Please email me on bbdunford@gmail.com.or even send this to a liberal candidate.like many more voters who would like this set up.
